---> Issues and challenges in integrating ICT in teaching and learning

The problem that I ever faced during my secondary school is the low usage of tool kit in learning process. I start studying in form 1 when the PPSMI issue is introduced while the subject that involved is science and mathematics. Because of that, the revision books for this subject almost change to English version. I was very excited with this type of learning session by having revision book inserting the education CD Rom. It is also one of the applications of learning using ICT. Each revisions book that I bought from the book store or teacher has CD Rom that will explain more about each topic in that subject. It’s not only me, even though all my classmates also feel very excited to have this learning style. It’s really differ from the latest study style which is student just can read that revision book without watching any animation related to certain topic.

My friends and I was in boarding school, we go to school in the morning, but, at evening and night, we have our preparation class. I dreamt of having one time of preparation session which is our CD Rom is useful for us, but at night the computer lab is not allowed to enter. Same thing goes to evening session. When we asked teacher to allow us to use the computer lab, teacher says that there is no one that will keep an eye on us when we are using the computer in the lab. As we know, in that time my friends and I or students in secondary school is still not using their own notebook. I think that the computer lab should have its own officer so that student can use the computer when they are in need.

Instead of that, teachers also never use the CD Rom when he/she teach us. The using of ICT in our learning is not wider. I just can study using that CD Rom when I’m going home once in a month. So, it just likes waste the source that had been served for the student. I guess this still happen till today looking at brother and sister. It is because when I’m going home during holiday, my brother n sister which are in secondary school always bring their CD Rom given by the teachers or getting from the revision book to take a look at home. When I’m asking them, they said that at school they are not allowed to enter computer lab except for the subject IT. This should not happen because from day to day, we always hear that the ministry of education always supplied more computers to each school in our country.

In my opinion teachers should be more creative, innovative and avoid the boring and gloomy learning style. Teachers also can use the substances from the CD Rom to make the learning style being more efficient and interesting. At last, why not in a week, students are allowed to enter computer lab and doing their own learning such as surfing internet for more information and learn using their CD Rom.
